BRIDGETON, NJ — The Rutgers Food Innovation Center (FIC) has expanded its training programs and its geographic outreach, and will be offering a series of food industry training programs in northern New Jersey in mid-October. These classes will include: a one-day course in Food Business Basics offered on October 18, a three-day food safety course in Preventive Controls for Human Food offered from October 19-21, and a one-day course in Food Industry Sustainability that will be offered on October 24. The PRC is assisting with the City of Paterson's Redevelopment Master Plans. the plans are currently undergoing revisions by the Planning Board. As a result, the City is allowed to better focus on types of activities that are being done within specific areas. Current activities of focus are the relocation of School No. 6 and the expansion of commercial corridors. In addition, the PRC anticipates that the increasing development density within the 4th and 5th wards will allow for much needed new housing stock and the creation of new areas for recreation. the updated redevelopment plans will allow for commercial uses on the first floor and residential uses above. A Curriculum Development for the HoHokus School that assigns participants by lottery through Human Resources in collaboration with the City of Paterson Department of Public Works, aims to offer training and learning skills related to jobs such as road surfacing, parks, recreation and other trades that will lead to the hiring of those individuals that successfully complete the program. The Paterson Restoration Corporation (PRC) is establishing a food business incubation program in the City of Paterson, New Jersey, and has acquired a building to be utilized for this purpose located at 163-177 Pennsylvania Avenue. The PRC has also gained funding towards equipment purchase and building renovation, enabling this project to go from its feasibility stage to its implementation strategy quite quickly.
